Ecological Assessments and Monitoring
← Ecology Work · Manage and Measure
Baseline surveys and follow-up data you can trust.

What it is
An ecological assessment documents what is on a site, such as plants, soils, water features, and habitat, and monitoring repeats measurements to show change.
When it makes sense
Before a project, for HOA/POA planning, for permit submittals, and after restoration work to check results.
How we do it
- Set objectives and methods before going into the field.
- Survey vegetation, soils, hydrology, and habitat using fixed plots and photo points.
- Report findings with maps and plain-language recommendations.
- Repeat on a schedule to track trends.
Standards we follow
- SER International Principles and Standards for the Practice of Ecological Restoration, 2nd edition (2019)
- US Army Corps of Engineers Wetland Delineation Manual and the Eastern Mountains and Piedmont Regional Supplement
- Ecological Society of America Code of Ethics, which all ESA Certified Ecologists agree to follow
Good to know
Assessments describe site conditions. They are not a regulatory wetland determination unless done and submitted as one.
