Habitat Restoration and Biodiversity
← Ecology Work · Restore and Replant
Rebuild plant communities that support pollinators, birds, and wildlife.

What it is
Habitat restoration returns a site toward a local reference ecosystem, such as a Southern Appalachian hardwood forest, stream corridor, or meadow, with a mix of native plants and structure.
When it makes sense
Old fields, stream buffers, lakefront properties, or community open space that has lost diversity.
How we do it
- Define the reference condition and the goals for the site, following the SER standards.
- Control invasives and rebuild plant diversity in layers.
- Keep useful structure such as snags and brush where it is safe.
- Monitor and adjust over time.
Standards we follow
- SER International Principles and Standards for the Practice of Ecological Restoration, 2nd edition (2019)
- NC Wildlife Resources Commission Wildlife Action Plan
Good to know
Restoration is a long game. We set measurable goals so you can see progress.
