Hazard Limb Removal

← Tree Work · Canopy Work

Targeted removal of dead, broken, or defective limbs over homes and people.

What it is

Hazard limb removal takes out only the part of a tree that creates unacceptable risk, such as a dead, cracked, or hanging limb, while keeping the rest of the tree.

When it makes sense

After storms, when dead wood shows up over a roof, driveway, play area, or trail, or when a risk assessment recommends reducing a specific defect.

How we do it

  • Look at the whole tree and its targets before cutting, so the work matches the actual risk.
  • Use the pruning types in ANSI A300 (cleaning or reduction) to remove the hazard and leave a sound tree.
  • Set drop zones and lower heavy limbs with rigging where the ground or structures are close.
  • Follow ANSI Z133 for climbing, aerial lift, and work near lines.

Standards we follow

  • ANSI A300 Pruning standard
  • ANSI A300 Tree Risk Assessment standard
  • ISA Best Management Practices: Tree Risk Assessment
  • ANSI Z133 Safety Requirements for Arboricultural Operations

Good to know

If a tree has a serious structural problem, a formal tree risk assessment will show whether limb removal is enough or whether other options are needed.
