Invasive Species Management
← Ecology Work · Manage and Measure
Remove and keep out aggressive non-native plants.

What it is
Invasive plants such as Chinese privet, multiflora rose, oriental bittersweet, tree-of-heaven, and kudzu crowd out natives. Management follows an integrated approach rather than a single tool.
When it makes sense
Spreading thickets, vines climbing trees, and areas where native planting keeps getting overrun.
How we do it
- Identify and map the species and infestation size.
- Choose methods by species: cutting, pulling, targeted herbicide, or a combination.
- Revegetate cleared areas so invasives do not return.
- Re-treat on a schedule. This is a multi-year effort.
Standards we follow
- ANSI A300 Integrated Vegetation Management standard
- NC Invasive Plant Council resources
Good to know
When herbicides are used, the product label is the law, and applications must follow label directions and state licensing rules.
